Students in 1st grade will become confident lifelong learners while understanding that Christ needs to be at the center of their lives. They will see the importance of building Godly relationships and becoming good citizens in and out of the classroom. In a fun and exciting environment, the teacher focuses on the whole child. Emphasis is placed on academic, spiritual, and emotional growth.
Academic excellence is obtained using a variety of methods to enhance engagement and motivation. Visual, auditory, and kinesthetic teaching reaches every type of learner. Special celebrations include Clifford’s birthday, Teddy Bear day, Winnie the Pooh’s birthday, and Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
Textbooks include the following: Journeys Reading, Abeka Language, Spelling,
Arithmetic, and Social Studies, Purposeful Design Bible, and Bob Jones Science.
In addition to the core subjects, students in first grade have gym, art, music, and technology. They also participate in a weekly chapel that includes worship and the opportunity to lead the pledges. Guest speakers present a biblical message supporting our yearly school theme.
Field trips include a trip to the Flint Children’s Museum, “Teach A Horse To Read” at a local horse farm, and a trip to Jackie’s Custard, Oh My Lolli, and the Imagination Station. In house activities include a visit from the fire department and a dentist.
Some school events students participate in are the elementary speech meet, March is reading month read-a-thon day, National Day of Prayer, and field day. 1st grade serves the community by making cards for people we are praying for.
