Students in 5th grade have the opportunity to have multiple teachers. In the homeroom classroom, students receive Bible instruction, English language arts including grammar, writing, and spelling, and science. Throughout the day, they visit another classroom for math and history. All subjects are taught from a biblical worldview, as a great portion of the textbooks are from Christian publishers. While this is supportive in a Christian school setting, it is necessary that the teacher also shape the classroom environment and lessons to focus on biblical integration.
Beyond the core academic areas, students in elementary school also have gym, art, vocal music, and technology classes. A weekly chapel program includes student leadership opportunities, singing, and guest speakers who share scripture and application supporting the yearly theme. Fifth graders serve throughout the school year on the safety patrol assisting younger students in the drop-off and pick-up times.
Textbooks include the following: ABeka Arithmetic, History and Grammar, Purposeful Design spelling, MOSDOS Press reading anthology, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe novel unit, and Bob Jones science.
Annual field trips include overnight outdoor education camp and a trip to the Chapman homestead. Other trips may be planned.
Special events throughout the school year include the elementary all-school speech meet competition, March is reading month read-a-thon day, National Day of Prayer assembly, 5th grade popcorn and poetry party, special guest classroom speakers, and field day. Beginning at 5th grade, students may try out for parts in the annual fall and spring drama productions. Basketball, soccer, and volleyball are also optional school team sports.
